Leon Czolgosz shot President McKinley with a revolver similar to this one (that one has a 3" barrel and exposed hammer), he could've gotten the idea from Gaetano Bresci, who bought one then returned to Italy where he used it to kill a European king. Returned during or after the Spanish Civil War and cut into a Model 1916 (gas escape & thumb space for clips). Rebored around 1965 from 7mm Mauser to 7.62x51mm.
